To address the issues of educational and economic disparity, Alliance for Excellence sponsors programs encouraging African American participation in higher education. Guided by a program director and project coordinator, each service region plans programs and activities to meet the needs of their communities.

Academic Excellence Awards recipients

Academic Excellence Awards
Alliance for Excellence honors students who excel academically through the Academic Excellence Awards program. Each of the four service regions holds an awards ceremony either on the college campus or in local churches to honor those students who deserve recognition for their various accomplishments.

Group of Belizean children Mission Trips to Belize
Students and educators from participating community colleges travel to Belize on mission trips. Groups work on construction, renovations, and tutor Belizean children. This gives participants an opportunity to experience another culture and a sense of accomplishment.

Leadership Development
Alliance for Excellence sponsors leadership development activities for participants on a yearly basis. Students from each service region attend national leadership conferences as well as Alliance sponsored leadership retreats.

Mentor and Mentee in courtyard Mentoring Program
This program follows African American young people throughout their college career to ensure personal and social success. Mentees are matched with mentors who act as positive role models and participate in Alliance sponsored motivational, educational, and cultural programs.

College Prep Workshops
Alliance for Excellence hosts workshops to encourage African Americans to purse higher education goals. College Day workshops introduce students to information about continued education, and Financial Aid workshops teach students about financial and how to apply for it.

Motivational speacer at Central Virginia Community College Awards Program Motivational Seminars
Alliance for Excellence sponsors speakers who discuss issues facing African Americans. Topics include: "Brown vs. Board of Education", "Women in Engineering", and "Jump Off Into It: A Look at Life". These programs are often held in local churches and community members are also invited to attend.
